Probably the fewest of the people reading this don’t know who he is, so I will just omit the introduction on this one. Yes, Parov Stelar is one of the big success stories electro-swing has written the past years. Nobody is probably going to disagree with me when I call him “The King of Electro-Swing”.
His new album released just a few hours ago on his label etagenoir recordings, consists out of two parts that can be bought here, here or here. Also check out the promo video.
Most songs to be found in CD1 appear really elegant and calm. Some like “Requiem for Annie” might even pass off as film music. The piano as central element, plays doubtlessly a very big role here. Nevertheless poppier tracks such as “Nobody’s a Fool” also found their way on the album. Still, whoever expected a series of Electro-Swing floor fillers might be a little disappointed. But lets be honest: Who would have ?
CD2 is essentially.. nothing new. And thats okay! It offers a collection of yet unreleased or vinyl-only releases that, in comparison, turn it up a notch speed wise. “Baska Brother”, “Booty Swing”, “Wanna Fete”, “The Paris Swing Box” are all familiar with whoever payed attention to whatever has been going on in the e-swing community within the past years.
On the other side though there is “Sally’s Dance”, “Oh Yeah” or “The Vamp” which the people who were lucky enough to get tickets for his completely sold out “The Princess” tour might recognize, as they are live-band and trio performances.
